Pianist Young Woo Lee graduated from Seoul
Arts High School and attended Seoul National University's College of Music
before moving to Germany to study under the world-renowned performer and
educator Professor Hans Leygraf. She studied at the Berlin University of the
Arts and the Mozarteum University Salzburg in Austria and graduated with top
honors from both the Diplom and Konzertexamen programs at the Berlin University
of the Arts, receiving critical acclaim as a "memorable and moving
performance." She won prizes at the Chosun Ilbo Competition and received
the Diploma D'Honor at the Maria Canals International Competition. During her
studies in Germany, She was selected as a scholar by the Paul Hindemith
Foundation in Berlin and received a grant from the Berlin State Government's
Young Artist Support Fund.
Young Woo Lee has expanded her musical
horizons through collaborations with composers such as Samuel Adler, Wolfgang
Rihm, Beat Furrer, and Toshio Hosokawa. She has performed numerous solo
recitals, chamber music with various ensembles, and premieres of contemporary
music. She has performed with the Seoul National University String Orchestra,
Sinfonietta 92 Berlin, and the Berliner Symphoniker. Her debut performance at
the Berlin Philharmonic Hall with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra was highly
praised, leading to multiple subsequent collaborations. She was invited to
perform at the closing concert of the Tongyeong International Music Festival,
playing works by Yun Isang. She has also participated in the Seoul Philharmonic
Orchestra's contemporary music series 'Ars Nova,' various projects by the
Ensemble TIMF, Seoul National University's contemporary music project 'Studio
2021,' the Seoul International Music Festival, the Korea Chamber Music
Composition Festival, Arts Festival Dimension, the 21st Century Composers
Association, and the Changak Association. Through these platforms, She has
collaborated with numerous composers and contemporary music specialists,
premiering many new works. She has also extended his reach to international
stages, performing at the Hong Kong Arts Festival and being invited to the Yong
Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore.
In addition, Young Woo Lee has engaged in
interdisciplinary collaborations, such as participating in the video art
project of artist Oh Min at the Daelim Museum Project Space. She strives to
bridge the gap with audiences through various lectures and interpretative
performances. She appeared and performed on KBS 1TV's Classical Odyssey and
presented solo recitals focusing on the piano music of Bach, Beethoven, and
Brahms in a scholarly and serious manner, with one of these, 'Ludwig van
Beethoven,' being broadcast live on KBS 1FM. Having served as a lecturer at
Seoul National University, Dankook University, and Dongduk Women's University,
and as an invited professor at Ewha Womans University, Young woo Lee is
currently an active member of the Ensemble TIMF and an assistant professor at
Yeongnam University.
